Alan Purwin has led Helinet Aviation in Van Nuys, California, as president since 1987. Under the leadership of Alan Purwin, Helinet Aviation works closely with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in a charitable capacity, privately funding a number of helicopter missions on the hospital’s behalf. The hospital relies on donors for many of its services, including transitional care services.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) provides children, adolescents and young adults with a variety of transitional care services. From a medical standpoint, CHLA considers a successful transition between childhood and adulthood as one that includes effective collaboration among care providers, the patient, and the patient’s family. Providing young adult patients with important knowledge regarding their medical conditions and how these conditions can best be managed throughout daily life represents a key point of emphasis throughout the transition process. Patients transitioning to adult medical care also learn how to advocate for their medical needs in different settings.
CHLA further supports young adult patients with professionals specializing in various areas of the adult health care system, one of the many aspects of independence that must be addressed during the transition process. Additional services include multispecialty partnership programs and programs offered at affiliated subspecialty clinics.
